Network Engineer

The Network Engineer is responsible for implementing the network elements of solutions that are being delivered as part of the project work that is delivered via the Professional Services department in the business.
 
The network environments include customer-facing hosted and public/private/hybrid and multi-cloud environments. They will provide expert technical assistance and guidance to clients as a subject matter expert within the project delivery team.
 
The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing and testing complex infrastructure in support of our cloud services. As a member of the Professional Services team, the Network Engineer will provide remote support to our clients for whom we are implementing projects and be responsible for the handover into the Business as Usual (BAU) networking resources.
 
They will work independently and as part of a team to urgently analyse technical issues, address Level 2 – 3 escalations, working with the Project Management Office (PMO) on client related projects, and troubleshoot over the phone and via remote access.
 
Finally, this role will successfully demonstrate the skills required to secure and manage network infrastructures and cloud services to protect performance and availability and mitigate threats.

Key Responsibilities

§  Provide technical services and support for the following areas:
-       Network level: WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, and security
-       Cloud and network infrastructure.
-       Virtualization technologies: VMware and Microsoft
§  Remote monitoring and management of system alerts and notifications related to project work
§  Perform network assessments and security audits
§  Participate in the administration and maintenance of the remote monitoring and management system: update agent scripts, respond to alerts, monitor dashboard, and periodic system review related to project work
§  Work with Sales and PMO teams to Engineer projects, identify new products and solutions, and research solutions for existing clients
§  Document maintenance for all cloud and network infrastructure delivered as part of a project
§  Communication with customers as required: keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages
§  Be available for other engineers and coach them to resolution
§  Support, mentor and knowledge share with other members of the team
§  Design and implement policies, processes, procedures and technologies to ensure performance, availability and security of Calligo cloud services
§  Support team management and Security & Compliance Officer in all areas of operations security and ensure compliance with internal security policies and procedures

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

§  Minimum 3 years’ technical experience gained in a similar role, preferably with experience working in managed or cloud services
§  In-depth knowledge of switching and routing protocols, to include but not limited to OSPF, RIPv2, BGP
§  In-depth knowledge of WAN Technologies, MPLS, VPLS, VPN
§  Cisco CCNP or equivalent professional technical qualification 
§  Working knowledge of software defined networking with VMware VCP-NSX desirable
§  Familiarity with Voice Technologies, POTS, VoIP, SIP Trunking
§  Working knowledge of VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V Virtualisation Infrastructure 
§  Experience designing, installing, configuring and maintaining large scale global network infrastructure
§  Multi-tenant networking understanding is essential
§  Working knowledge of Azure virtual networking
§  Working knowledge of common firewall principles and vendors; Cisco, watchguard etc.
